For me it is a joy to be painting watercolors of animals with their individual mannerisms and gestures. I want to capture the beauty and innocence and hopefully their essence in my work.
In my online gallery Eastwitching I paint and sell animal art originals & prints.
Take your pick from NURSERY, Farmyard, SAFARI, Rustic, NAUTICAL, Woodland, JUNGLE, Bugs and MORE. Direct from me, the artist. I create artwork at affordable prices - why not start building your very own art collection now?
Why Animal Art? Animals easily transform the mood of a space with their natural energy so …..
what about creating a safari theme for the nursery with elephants and zebras or
a rustic country atmosphere full of hens and piglets for your kitchen…
How about a nautical look featuring seahorses, crabs and seagulls for your beach cottage or living room and for autumn fill your den with foxes, owls and squirrels that would create a natural woodland theme?
Animal art that may become a family heirloom can be found at eastwitching and please do not hesitate to request any animal that I do not currently have available.
I create all my artwork in an 8×10 inch format because it is a nice size and fits easily int premade and ready available frames - making your framing job a lot easier!
Watercolour has ben my joy for over 17 years now and apart from a 6 month period of 2 classes a week from Welsh artist Arnold Lowrey I am self taught. Once I was bitten by the bug at a total beginner’s weekend workshop in Tongwynlais South Wales that was it! You’ll find me most days painting in my back bedroom next to my graciously north lit window looking out on my back yard in a mid-terrace 19th century mine workers house.
I sit to paint and don’t use an easel as I like to be able to flip my paper around and upside down - helps switch off that logical left hand side of my brain while I paint and study for shadows and tones. I bought my Frank Webb lidded watercolour palette in 1994 and I still use it every day. My brushes are equally as long lasting and mostly I use rounds as opposed to flats in order to better paint animal forms. Pan paints don’t allow me to get a loaded brush of paint and so tubes are it. My one foible - I always have a well full of exquisitely perfumed Rose Madder Genuine paint right under my nose in the nearest corner of my palette. Only Winsor & Newton’s Rose Madder smells like a real rose garden and I get a waft of it now and then as I paint.

I can’t imagine having the patience to paint. I just don’t have the focus, Zero ability doesn’t help either. I couldn’t draw water
That is so funny! I suppose it does take focus and time but when I started I couldn’t draw a tree !
Would really like two prints of your seahorses…so that they face each other.
Hi Melinda
Many thanks for your request. I can print any of my seahorses so that you have one facing each way. If you go to my Etsy shop http://www.eastwitching.etsy.com you will see a green one, brown, two blues and a yellow. If you tell me which ones you prefer I can sort that out for you. Do you have an Etsy account? Alison

Hi Louis - I will enjoy seeing new posts and thanks for your encouraging remarks:) Alisn
Beautiful pieces that capture the sense of the animals without artificially copying them. As art should be.
Hello and thank YOU! That is what I try to do - and give myself to the feeling as well - glad you resonate with them - Alison
Allison, your illustrations are beautiful! You have a great balance of tight and loose details.
Alison…love the jubilee corgi. I’m writing a children’s book and looking for a cover artist. The story is about a little boy who wants to ride a shark in a rodeo. So my vision is to have him straddle a shark wearing bermuda or board shorts…his straw cowboy hat and his boots. If this is something you’d be interested in….please contact me at saltwaterbabies@gmail.com. Thanks!
