So I drew a Monsterra

A Monsterra not a monster:)

Sitting very quietly and focusing on one leaf at a time I draw the contours of this - one of my fave indoor plants - as an exercise in observation and modified contour drawing. It is very relaxing. Read all about this technique in Betty Edwards’s book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.derwent-onyx-pencilsI have this plant sprawling recklessly all out of one corner and across the front of my hearth. I can’t ever light the fire now but I don’t care.

I like colour, textiles, plants, lights and shiny things....the monsterra is visible too

Tools of the trade - artist

Some of my sketching gear

I felt soothed and calm as I drew - it took over 20 minutes to draw the largest leaf.

This may become a painting at some point.

What would you like to concentrate on and draw slowly?

I fancy doing a large pine cone that I have on my windowsill next…
